When One Looks Back
Today’s Bible Study January 6, 2012
““Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind and she turned into a pillar of salt” (Genesis 19:26).
In your journals, you can make notes regarding the lesson below.
To Find (look for):
What was Sarah’s reaction when she overheard that she was to have a baby at an old age?
What does Isaac mean? (Look back a page to Gen 17:19 footnote).
How old was Abraham when Isaac was born?
To Mind (key point): Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind the group leaving the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Salvation was offered to her, but it required that she turn away from a life of sin and love of the world. This is something she chose not to do, and because of her choice to “love the world” more than God, she perished.
God was faithful in keeping His promise to Abraham, even though its fulfillment came many years later. God’s timing is not always our timing. Rest in the assurance that God’s promises are sure for all time.
To Bind (apply to our lives): In I John 2:5 we read, “Do not love the world or anything in the world, for the world and its desires will pass away.” Do you have a tendency to cling to the world? What sin in your life do you need to “leave behind?”
