When Blessing Comes

Today’s Scripture “Oh, my father, what about me? Bless me, too!” (Genesis 27:34b).

Notes God was careful to repeat the same circumstances with Abraham/Isaac and Abimelech to confirm that the blessing was passed on to Abraham’s descendants. This repetition of motifs is deliberate.

The blessing given by the patriarch was part of the birthright and usually included both property and family superiority. Blessings were usually prophetic.

Inter-marrying with the Canaanites was forbidden for the Hebrews. To intermarry would destroy the purity of the line and the purity of the Israelites’ faith.

God’s plans cannot be thwarted by man. God chooses to work through man to accomplish His purposes.  God’s people live by faith, trust God and carefully follow His commands. Abraham was careful to remain in the land even in death and to choose a wife for his son from the family line. How careful are you to follow God’s Word to the letter?
