The Ties of Family

Today’s Scripture

“When they were invaded, you stood aloof, refusing to help them” (Obadiah 1:11).

The Edomites were descendants of Esau, Jacob’s brother. So, in essence, they were cousins with the Jews.

Obadiah tells us that during this most difficult part of Judah’s history, their brother nation, Edom, gloated, looted and aided the Babylonians as they destroyed the Jerusalem and its people. God holds us responsible to assist our family and stand by them in times of trouble. When you see others in trouble whom you might not be particularly fond of, do you respond with rejoicing and arrogant speech or with a silent prayer of intercession?
