Intensely Loyal

Today’s Scripture

“The descendants of Jehonadab son of Recab have obeyed their ancestor completely, but you have refused to listen to me” (Jeremiah 35:16)!

Today’s reading introduces us to a brand new people – the Recabites. Descendents of Moses father-in-law, these people accompanied Israel in the wilderness and into the promised land. A separatist clan within a nation, they held fast to the traditions of their people and remained intensely loyal to those commands.

All around us are unbelievers, who for the sake of goodness, carryout acts that help their neighbor, give to the poor and demonstrate express loyalty to their families. How often are we, as believers and children of the King of Kings, put to shame by the devotion and discipline of these people who hold true to their beliefs?
