“Do not be afraid for I am with you.“ (Genesis 26:24 –comes from yesterday’s reading).

Check out this map, which shows Jacob’s treck from his parents’ to Laban’s house was 450 miles!

Mandrakes are mentioned in the video; here’s a picture.

Mandrakes

To Find (look for):

  1. After Jacob saw the vision of Jacob’s ladder at Bethel, what changed for Jacob?

  2. What was Rachel’s occupation before she married Jacob?

  3. How many years did Jacob work before he could marry Rachel?

To Mind (key point): Jacob’s vision (known as Jacob’s ladder) served a purpose to show Jacob that God was with him wherever he went. God reiterated to Jacob the covenant He had made with Abraham and Isaac, promising land, descendants and universal blessing through him.

Worship was a natural response to the encounter with God. Jacob’s worshipful response included fear (reverence) for the Lord, erecting a memorial stone pillar, worship, the makings of a vow, and a promise to tithe.

To Bind (apply to our lives): Just as Jacob erected standing stones as a memorial (reminder) of God’s presence and action in His life, we are also called to be  “living stones” to testify to the greatness and presence of God in our lives.  How does your life serve as a “living stone?”
