Encouragement Not To Quit
Today’s Bible Study August 6, 2012
“He arrested Jeremiah the prophet and had him whipped and put in stocks” (Jeremiah 20:2).
To Mind (key point): The story of the potter and the clay, told by Jeremiah the prophet, is an action sermon depicting a spiritual reality using a physical example. The telling of this truth, that Judah and Jerusalem will be shattered, was a coming reality; however, bad news was not what the people wanted to hear. As a result of obeying God, Jeremiah was beaten and chained in a very public and humiliating place, and he remained an official prisoner until Nebuchadnezzar set him free.
To Bind (apply to our lives): Do you ever feel that serving God results in trouble? As Jeremiah cried out his frustration to God, he revealed very real and raw emotions. In life a duality exists. With the good comes the bad. But God promises to be with us and to allow us to be part of the never-ending story of redemption. When Jeremiah suffered, he took his concerns to God. In our humanness, it’s natural to want to quit; yet, through the Spirit’s wholeness, it’s natural to have the strength to keep going.
