Choosing the World or God

Today’s Scripture “Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt” (Genesis 19:26).

  Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind the group leaving the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Salvation was offered to her, but it required that she turn away from a life of sin and love of the world. This is something she chose not to do, and because of her choice to “love the world” more than God, she perished.

  In I John 2:5 we read, “Do not love the world or anything in the world, for the world and its desires will pass away.” Do you have a tendency to cling to the world? God offers us the gift of salvation but requires that we leave the desires of the world behind and look ahead to a new life of righteousness. Like Lot’s wife, when we choose to look back, we forfeit the greater blessings God has prepared for us.

  Every day, we choose to follow after the world or follow Christ. Which will you choose to follow today?
