A Revolutionary Suggestion
Today’s Bible Study April 30, 2012
“Sheba began to chant: Down with the dynasty of David!” (2 Samuel 20:1).
To Find (look for):
Which tribes were angry at David (2 Samuel 19:43)?
This time David fights a giant, does he need help (2 Samuel 21:17)?
To Mind (key point): After the short exile in which David must leave Jerusalem due to the failed takeover of his son, Absalom, he is escorted by the tribe of Judah back into Jerusalem in joyful procession! The ten Northern tribes of Israel feel slighted not to have been included in the welcoming party. For the first time we see a suggestion of succession, which comes from the mouth of a man named Sheba.
To Bind (apply to our lives): David responds to the failed takeover with gestures of reconciliation toward Amasa, Shimei, Mephibosheth and Ziba, to name a few. A man after God’s own heart, we see in David, a desire for peace, justice and mercy. Can the same be said of our own lives?
